Being a pretty well known person means there is a lot out there about Taylor and her life. I have typically gotten my information about her from four main sources. The first is her music, but I already said I'm not talking about that. The second is her Wikipedia page. What's better is that this isn't a high school term paper so I can cite Wikipedia and no one can do anything to stop me! I feel the power flowing through my veins already!
Taylor's Wikipedia page is actually pretty dope. When I have a question about Taylor, Wikipedia has the answer at least 90% of the time. It's a pretty standard page overall, but there are a couple gems hidden here and there. The best moments are when you can tell that a moderator found something they really wanted to include but couldn't quite tell how to do it. That's how you end up with sentences like this.
That's right ladies and gentlemen, Taylor Swift made her acting debut on an episode of CSI. Remember, at this point she was already world famous for her hits on Fearless (You Belong With Me, Love Story). Okay, so listen. I'm about to show you something and you have to promise me that you'll watch it. There's a video on YouTube of Taylor's part in that episode of CSI, and it's just incredible. Thing is, it includes a clip of her music so I can't embed it. So, I'm going to link to the video and you need to go watch it. Seriously. Do it. Every clip gets better and the fact that we have no context makes everything just amazing. I'm inserting a picture here, don't go past it until you have watched the video by following this link. It's only 4 minutes 30 seconds and I promise it's worth it.
This is what you're missing if you don't watch it. Go do it now.
Did you watch it? Okay, good. So can we talk about how hilariously sterile this all is in retrospect? Given, I haven't actually watched the whole episode yet (it's on my to-do list), but I love the after-school special message here of a good-girl getting cyber bullied by people calling her a "freak" (very cutting), so she cuts and dyes her hair and gets some piercings. My god, look what she's become! Just 365 days ago she was a cute high school girl who wanted to fuck that hunky cop and now she's kissing boys in front of gas stations and probably doing drugs! Except just kidding, she's goddamn dead! Her mom walked into her with a pair of scissors, while immediately impaled her nearly all the way through. This death scene is so bizarre I don't even know where to begin. I've decided I need to do a whole episode on it now so let's just move on.
This actually transitions perfectly into the third way I learn things about Taylor Swift, which is old media about her. One of my favorites has got to be a "song" called "America's Sweetheart". I have these in quotes because it isn't a song, it's just an hour long documentary that you can find on YouTube, but is for some reason also listed by Google as a song with Taylor as the artist. It's more or less a time capsule for how people saw Taylor Swift in 2010 and I had a blast watching it, so go give it a twirl. I won't make it required like the last one but I do recommend it, especially considering how the modern Taylor has so unapologetically shoved her past self under the bus, really undermining what lots of the people say about her in this video.
You don't even have to leave the tab. Wow!
The fourth and final way I learn things about Taylor is through the news. I don't typically search for news about her because I want my primary lens to be her music, but occasionally I do come across headlines that catch my eye. Take today for instance! For her birthday she announced that there will be a Netflix release of her Reputation Stadium Tour that she just wrapped up. I have to say that watching the trailer has made me very excited to watch it and come 2019 there will definitely be a blog post on the show.
That's going to be all for now, I hope this post has given you some much needed dressing for the salad that is Taylor Swift. That was a weird metaphor.
See you tomorrow,
-C
