This music video has a pretty fun gimmick going for it. Film nerds probably notice it right in the first 30 seconds, but I'm pretty stupid so I never noticed it until it was pointed out to me. Go ahead and watch the video to see if you can figure it out! And before you ask, no, it's not the goddamn furries.
In the same vein as other popular media like the movie Birdman and season 10 episode 4 of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, this music video was filmed in a one-shot style (note: I know that Birdman wasn't actually one shot). This is actually why the furries are here to begin with, the frame always focuses on them while Taylor does a high velocity wardrobe change. This somewhat justifies their placement, since they need something interesting enough to allow Taylor enough time to change clothes without the audience noticing. But...why furries? Seriously these people look like they're straight out of a Grandaddy music video.
It sure is lucky I can embed videos without having to watch them
But let's not stray too far from our topic of the day! I can't help but be curious how these costume changes happen so quickly. After getting off the phone at 1:34, she reappears wearing a different outfit completely at 1:45, only 11 seconds later. That's 11 seconds to change and get in the right position on set. I'm sure that the outfits she's wearing aren't normal ones, but I like to imagine that Taylor has somehow obtained cartoon level clothes-changing powers. It's like she's a member of Team Rocket who rips off a tiny outfit to reveal an elaborate uniform that was underneath the whole time. But that's just my Taylor Swift headcanon.
Okay actually WTF is this music video
Unfortunately that's all the big things I can find to cover in this post, but there are plenty of smaller details I noticed while watching it repeatedly.
- Taylor Swift's apartment apparently has a window next to the door that sees directly inside?
- Taylor's jammies in the beginning has squirrels on them, and one of the furries is a squirrel. Coincidence? Maybe not.
- The car at 1:45 is made of cardboard
- The furries are in the TV too! WHY???
- Taylor's red outfit appears to have more than 100DoTS on it. That takes some serious dedication.
- Red neon sign that says "BAR". You know, like all those real life bars!
- Apparently anything passes for a "Tunnel" these days
- The people emptied out of the room at the end SO FAST
I suppose that's it for today, hope you liked the slight change in pace.
See you tomorrow,
-C
